    I presently use a canon vr digital video camera for video transfer from 8mm film. It works well but every time the camera is shut off I lose white balance, manual focus, and shutter speed. Is there a good camera that does not have this problem

    Yes and No. If you have an XL1 with aftermarket fully manual lens like those made by Precision Optics then you can hold your focus and you can set the WB too. Or, the other option is to buy a full on professional camera like a DVCam or DVCPro--if you do that then you should just get a really good transfer done instead. Good Luck
